I am always inspired by the stories of successful people, including serial entrepreneurs, inventors, explorers, and in particular ‘game changers’.
Game changers are individuals that challenge the status quo, and take unprecedented risks to pursue opportunity. They strongly believe in themselves and are fuelled by their flowing passion to succeed. More uniquely, they often have a legacy that hinges on the success of others, a desire for global change, wellbeing for humanity, innovation in business, etc.
Game changers are individuals that challenge the status quo, and take unprecedented risks to pursue opportunity.
I was honoured to interview a game changer (Lisa Short – CEO of Our People Pty Ltd) just recently on my online radio show. Lisa’s introductory sentence struck me as being a person with a mission, and with a strong belief that we must change the way we do things in business, in particular with education and leadership.
Lisa’s core legacy and focus is that we must provide ‘opportunity’ to people in regional areas and especially to women in business and youth. “Achieving transformational change through incredible people & systems and working together for growth & commercial outcomes”, was Lisa’s core message. This is why Our People Pty Ltd was founded in 2014 in Melbourne, to provide turn-key solutions to tackle poor organisational culture and poor business practices in Australia.
A Fancy Word ?
What struck me particularly about Lisa’s philosophy around learning, hinges around the new-age term “Neoteric”. I must confess my ignorance of such a term, but after hearing the definition, I was attracted to this business practice like a moth to the flame. I soon discovered that Lisa wasn’t just ‘innovating’ the RTO industry sector, but revolutionising it with a complete holistic approach. Her aim is to ‘send people home feeling safe, protected, happier, healthier, & more educated'.
My interpretation is that it’s not enough to focus just on completing the certificate or qualification per se, but to provide ‘entrepreneurial’ workplace solutions to help employees adapt to today’s challenges and competitive environment at work.

Lisa considers herself a ‘bone rattler’, when it comes to business leadership. Respect, courage, conviction, openness, and excellence, are just a few words that she uses to describe a ‘game changer’ and what it takes to be a true authentic leader. ‘It’s about people and relationships….developing ‘team culture’ should be more of a focus than just aiming for financial goals within an organisation’, says Lisa.
As I further explored Lisa’s philosophy to leadership, I soon uncovered a deeper insight to this business practice, and the essence to transformational change. I learnt that you must challenge yourself and do whatever it takes fix what is ‘not right’, or perhaps do something that you ‘do not like doing’. For me, this is the difference between someone who is ordinary versus someone who is extraordinary. I like to use the expression ‘grab the bull by the horns’, to help visualise what this takes.

New-age leadership in the Australian work sector requires more than a strategic approach focused on financial, operational, HR, and other departmental goals or KPIs.
We can learn a lot from 21st century entrepreneurs or ambassadors like Kathy Giusti, Angelina Jolie, and Fred Smith. These game changers have revolutionised their industry sectors, and created opportunities for their stakeholders. Their philosophy to success extends outwards towards the community, beyond one’s own ego, pride or personal pursuits.
