I didn't do it...it's not my fault
Bart Simpson is well known for saying - “I didn’t do it. Nobody saw me do it. There’s no way you can prove anything !”
Most of today’s society is used to blaming others for something that goes wrong in their own lives. If we don’t achieve what we desire, or get what we want, we automatically blame others.
In NLP language, there's a term called 'Cause' and 'Effect'. Most people fall in the trap of believing that their outcome in life is the 'effect' of some external factor, or a circumstance beyond their control. On the other hand, a small minority of people, especially those who are successful or take control of their lives, believe that their outcome in life is the 'cause' of the decisions and actions they take in life.
In advertising, we see the 'effect' mentality or message all the time. An example includes a typical legal firm proclaiming that “It’s not your fault…..you should sue the bastards and receive compensation!” This bold statement assumes you have done nothing wrong, even though this may not be the case at all !
Unfortunately by blaming others, you are giving up, or transferring your power to someone else. In other words, you are not taking direct responsibility for your own actions, and you are limiting the direction you can take in life, for better or for worse.
On the other hand, by taking responsibility, you are creating an opportunity to fix the problem yourself, for a better outcome and result, which in turn creates a sense of satisfaction and result.
In business, it is important that you create ‘results’ rather than ‘reasons’ or excuses. A more healthy and productive way to think is to take control of your actions, accept full responsibility regardless of the outcome being good or bad, and determine the direction you want to take for your future. You will automatically increase the chance of reaching your goals and aspirations, rather than depending on others for the same outcome.
By adopting this mindset, you are empowering yourself to achieve anything your mind or heart desires. If you can accept failure or ridicule along the way, you stand a much better chance of achieving success in the long run.
It is also important to note that our values, beliefs, and attitudes ‘filter out’ what our experiences are. In other words, what comes into your conscious and unconscious mind is distorted or altered by our past experiences or perceptions to life.
If you want to enhance your success, try to re-model the way you think, by adopting the attitudes and beliefs of successful people. You'll be surprised by the results !
